Course content includes applicable state, federal and provincial safety regulations. The training's first part includes comprehensive in-class lessons and test. After that is a hands-on customized session together with practical instruction and assessment.
The content of the course applies to all types and categories of overhead lifting crane devices. The instruction would specifically focus on all aspects of crane operation which can be done at the trainee's workplace. Upon completing the course, trainees would know how to operate particular overhead lifting devices, related components and attachments safely and efficiently.
The purpose of the operator course is to identify any potentially dangerous habits that an operator may develop when operating an overhead crane. Costly damage to products and equipment could be prevented with right habits. Training reduces the chance of a workplace injury or incident occurring.
The duration of the course is eight hours of classroom instruction followed by a few hours of customized, on-site, hands-on training. Participants are graded on their understanding of training material through written testing and an evaluation of their practical knowledge. The minimum acceptable score is 80%.
In the in-class session, participants would know applicable causes of occurrences and damages, guidelines and legislation, danger awareness, internal responsibility, basic equipment and design principles, capacity ratings/load weight calculations, safe hosting/operating techniques, pre-shift equipment checks, kinds of hardware, equipment applications/rigging, angles and hitches, operator/pedestrian safety, hand signals for slingers and operators, turning/flipping loads safely.
The practical training and evaluation portion of the course must be pre-scheduled. This customized portion of the training would be held at the trainees' facility. The duration of this practical training component is an hour or two. The instructor would train two operators at a time on skills such as safe operation, planning the lift and proper rigging practices.
After completing both the in-class instruction and the practical training and evaluation, the trainee would be tested via an exam. Each and every participant will be required to sign the safety rules. Individual wallet certificates would be given to successful trainees. The company will be given a framed wall certificate.
